The time has come to move on to building another dollhouse. I've decided on The McKinley. It's a wallhanging house with a beautiful roofline and the measurements are 33" in width and 31" in height and the depth is 9". This is also my 8th build.
The tower windows have been wallpapered and the wiring is done.
This dollhouse is going together beautifully.
The attic has been wallpapered and tower is together and papered.
I've taped the roof on just to make sure it all fits perfectly.
This picture shows the hall wallpapered.
And here the hallway is all papered without the trim.
The bedroom has all been wallpapered.
I was really hoping to use this bathroom kit for this house. I put it in to see how it looks.
This is where I have ended for today, July 15th, 2007

The attic flooring is finished. I used wide popsicle sticks for this floor. I didn't use any polyurethane to make them shiny. Since it was an attic I wanted them to remain dull.
I decided on a mirror for above the mantle and I bricked the hearth which still needs to be dirtied up a bit. The template is ready for me to do my wood floorings. I will hide the light behind twigs once I decide what to use. I haven't done any crown mouldings or baseboards until the floors are done.
I absolutely love this house, it has so much character and it's a dream to build. I highly recommend it.
The floor is ready for installing in the livingroom.
The flooring is now installed but I haven't begun to do any trim work yet.
Upstairs hallway flooring is done.
The bedroom flooring is finished. I used stirrer sticks for the livingroom, bedroom and hallway.
Bathroom flooring is finished. I used Greenleaf's wood tiles for this floor.
This is a close-up of the Greenleaf tiles used in the bathroom.
I've used the wide popsicle sticks for the kitchen floor and it won't be as dark as the other floors. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to start on the outside. The baseboards and the ceiling trim will come later and will be painted white.
The kitchen floor has been stained with a water based stain and I don't care for it. You don't get the real nice look of glossy wood like you get with oils. But they are done and the room has been papered.
Here I've started putting the roof on but I wanted to get some bedroom lights installed while I was able to and I also want to get the trim on before the roof goes on as well.
Here is a picture showing the lamps working. These were lamps that I had made for this particular room.
This is the front of the house. I've filled all the gaps with wood filler and sanded. There will be a light above the front door.
I still need to add the top of the tower but it's in nice and solid.
I've painted the front and back using latex paint and sand for a stucco effect. The trim will go on once the pieces are painted white. There are places that will need to be filled in at a later time and I also will need to paint the verandah again. The hanging wall of the house will just be painted. I was really undecided what to do here. I wasn't sure whether to paint the trim and install it all first and then stucco but didn't like that idea, so to me, this was the best method and can always be touched up where the stucco meets the window and door trim pieces. I've removed the porch side piece and am waiting on some supplies to make my own porch. I wasn't happy with the way it looked.
I did all the baseboards and ceiling trim on the second floor, now I need to install all the lights and make curtains and work on all the windows. I had made the wicker bedroom set as well as the rug. The bathroom is a Greenleaf kit. I still have the front porch to do and the shingles to put on, build the drawers that fit in the bottom of this house and also the trim on the edges of the floors and walls.
So much yet to do.
Today was a day to work on lighting. I installed a small ceiling light in the hallway and two wall sconces in the bathroom. For the bedroom lamps, I changed my mind from the previous pictures. These are also handmade by me and the shades are a pale blue and the base is silver.
I've finished making the rug for this room and added some accessories. I'm getting ahead of myself here by decorating before I've finished the building of this house.
The drawers and the lattice are now finished. I rubbed some candle wax along the outer edges of each drawer and they run very smoothly now.
The windows are now all in place. That leaves the front door and the porch along with the roof and chimney yet to work on.
I picked up some twigs from outdoors to use in the fireplace and glued them together . I hid the bulb in between the wood pieces.
New lights have been added to the livingroom,
A light has been installed in the kitchen.
Porch is finished although the front door is not installed yet. It needs some sanding.
Trim work is mostly all done now. I started shingling today but I'm sure it's going to be a long and tedious job.
These are two closeup pictures of the front porch. Other than installing the front door, it's finished.
The attic bedroom is finished. I've made the frame for the mirror and finished the rug. The plant and table were also made by me.
I need to make doors yet and finish the roof.
I also added a picture in the hallway and bedroom.
Bedroom with a picture of a cross stitch I had done. I also made the frame.
The livingroom drapes are done.
Christmas is Coming to the McKinley
Gina Gagnon of www.lonewolfminiaturecreations.com created a little girl for me and I also purchased Grannie at the same time. I'm so pleased with both dolls but especially how much the child resembles my grand-daughter, Corrina. Gina did a fabulous job!
