The beginning of building the Brimble's Mercantile started on February 07, 08. I've decided this dollhouse will be my flower shop. So far, I have the three walls and bottom floor together.
The stairs are together and fit beautifully. Before I glue them in, I must figure out what to do with that back wall.
For the back wall, I used spackle and I've started on the wiring and added the second floor.
I've installed the wiring. I'm going to keep it simple. I thought maybe just a small chandelier for the ground floor and since the upstairs will be an apartment, I'll most likely use a couple of lamps.
This is the beginning of bricking the exterior.
It's done! The shop has all been bricked but still needs alot of work. I will have to scrape the brick off around the windows and doors to fit the trim on which is why I didn't worry how it looked in those areas. It also needs to be dirtied. I want it to look weathered and old.
I just had to see how the porch would look. Some pieces had to be glued together first and once dry, it will be painted.
I've shingled the porch roof and the porch is pretty much finished now other than the sign is yet to be put up.
The exterior trim has been done on all the upper windows. Next I'll be working on the front door and the lower picture windows.
I've added the roof and my window trim is done. Once I have finished the sanding, I will repaint the trim. Then it will be on to doing the shingles.
The front doors are installed and the paint has been touched up on the window trim pieces.
I've finally got the major part of the roof done. It has taken me quite a while to do and I still have a couple of dormers to finish yet. I'm also thinking of redoing the porch roof. I hadn't covered it when I did the sanding of spackle above it and it was very difficult to get off. Well, that's for another day and here's two pictures of what I've done today.
All of the roofing is done and I redid the porch roof as well. Now I'm able to move on to the inside of the flower shop.
I used wallpaper for the ceiling and the flooring on the main floor I used tiles purchased from Home Depot. They were cut into 1" squares.
The signs are up. Since I'm building this dollhouse for my daughter Missy, I thought I would name the shop after her real life flower shop.
I put some panelling in the top floor and I'm thinking of painting it blue. You can see a touch of it on the right. I've not decided what to do for flooring yet.
Everything has been done as far as the building of the florist shop, other than staining the trim on the first and second floors. I made the cooler and table where the girls or owner might want to work. I've placed an order for a sink and a swivel chair for behind the counter. All the windows have been put in now and all the pieces of furniture that came with the kit have been made and painted but I'm not sure what (if any) will be used.
I made the coolers and the buckets, filled them with handmade flowers and placed them in the coolers.
Other than having to put some lights in, I'm really looking forward to making it look like a florist shop inside and out. I've got lots of hanging baskets for the porch. I have to make up some potted plants for both inside and outside. I've made up many vases with flowers but will need to make lots more.
Lights have been put in for both floors now.
Making the window displays.
The cash register is in place as well as both window displays. The daffodils on the counter were a gift from a friend on the Greenleaf forum. Thanks so much, Lynette (nutti). I love them.
I worked on adding more flowers today and filling up the upstairs. Still have a long way to go before it's finished.
