Making Quilts and Other Family Projects by wenlaine
I was recently introduced into the world of quilt-making by a dear friend, Carolyn MacMillan, who does the most amazing job on her quilts.  She taught me what to do and all that I would need to make a simple quilt and since I had already so many fat quarters I had purchased for dollhouses, I thought it would be a great way to use up some of my stash of fabrics.
This first quilt was started in June, 2010 and I'm almost finished stitching the top, padding and backing together.  I've never been the best at hand-sewing but I'm getting lots of practice.

The Finished Quilt
What a wonderful hobby this is!  My next quilt will be a single but then I'm going to venture into making a double or king size.  I can't wait to get started!
My Second Quilt - Gold and Purples
I can only imagine how that sounds but honestly, the colors really go well together.  With the help of my girlfriend, Carolyn, we went shopping for fabrics yesterday, March 15, 2011.  I decided on these five colors and spent last night and today cutting out my pieces.
These are my 5 choices of colors.  The darkest purple will be my border.  I'm in the process of cutting out my pieces.
My pieces are cut out and ready to be sewn together.   I'm undecided if I like this placement of the pieces or.....
This is how it's supposed to be and now that I see it in a picture, I do much prefer it this way.  Now on to the next stage of sewing.
Today March 17th, I sewed a pile of the three colors together and then did a strip so I could see what it might look like.  This is what I have accomplished thus far.
I hung this bit of the quilt across a sofa so you can see how it all fits  together.  I'm feeling really good about my choice of colors as well as the pattern.  Today I sewed five rows down and thirteen rows across.
The top is now ready to put the batting and backing on.
I quilted this pillow cover to match.
Here I have the three pieces; top, batting and backing together with my pins in place.
These pictures show the backing and a few rows have been done by handsewing.
This quilt is now finished.   I'm looking forward to starting another one.
I made this rug which was intended for my livingroom from a kit and it took me almost three months to finish.  Once it was done, it looked much nicer in my kitchen since my counter tops match the dark blue in the rug.  Now I've decided to do another one for under my coffee table in the livingroom.

July 22, 2011
Today I started a new quilt.  This one I'm using flannel and making a rag quilt.  I saw a youtube video showing how one was made and fell in love with it.  I purchased two yards of each of these five patterns and I'm very excited to begin working on it.

All my squares and batting have been cut out.  I've decided that each square will have the same pattern on the back.
Here I have pinned the squares together with the padding in between each, ready to sew.  The seam all around each square will be 1/2 inch.  One square has been done with an X from corner to corner to hold the batting in place.
My choices of five different flannel patterns.
All the squares are sewn and ready to be put together.
I've finished putting the quilt together and now I have to snip along the seams all around the squares and the outside edge.  I'm going to assume that it will take me some time to do that.
All the snipping has been done.  Now for washing this new quilt.
This is how the wrong side of the quilt looks.
I've washed this quilt twice and it's now finished.  It measures 49" x 84" and it goes to my granddaughter, Cory.
Hand-knit Christening Gown
This christening gown was hand-knit by me for my grand-daughter, Cory.  I had used tiny red rosettes around the bodice of the gown and around the hood of the cape.
Another Rag Quilt - January 16, 2012
I so enjoyed making my first rag quilt that I decided to make another one, although I  purchased enough fabric to make two for twin beds.  Within the next few days, I will cut out my squares.
Today, January 18th, I cut all my squares out as well as the batting.  They measure 8 1/2" and the batting is 7 1/2".
